A knowledge audit provides an "at a glance" view of an organization's needs and opportunities. Its purpose is to improve an organization's effectiveness through a better understanding of the dynamics and levers of knowledge production, access, and use. However, there is a lot of inconsistency in how knowledge audits are conducted, which sometimes undermines the credibility and usefulness of the exercise.
In part one of this discussion, Patrick Lambe will introduce a systematic approach to knowledge auditing and will talk about the inspiration behind his newly published book "Principles of Knowledge Auditing: Foundations for Knowledge Management Implementation". Participants will gain an understanding of how this developing field can be of benefit to organisations, what barriers and risks they should be aware of, and what steps they can take to get started.
Janine Weightman will lead the second part of the session by sharing her practical experience conducting knowledge audits through a case study. Janine will speak about the tools and processes she uses and share some of the challenges and lessons learned in performing knowledge audits virtually during the lockdown.
This will be an interactive session with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and share experiences throughout and at the end.
Patrick Lambe is Principal Consultant at Straits Knowledge. He is the author of "Organising Knowledge: Taxonomies, Knowledge and Organisational Effectiveness" and co-author of the award-winning "The Knowledge Manager's Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Embedding Effective Knowledge Management in Your Organization".
Janine Weightman is a knowledge management practitioner, consultant, and founder of Knovolution, a niche management consultancy based in Northumberland.
