Knowledge Organization in the Age of AI: Innovation, Integration and Impact

The 8th ISKO UK biennial conference “Knowledge Organization in the Age of AI: Innovation, Integration and Impact” will take place online on 7 October 2025.

Through a selection of invited talks the conference aims to promote discussion and understanding of knowledge organization systems (KOSs), related applications, and advances in generative AI.

The speakers will showcase innovative approaches to improving the quality of KOSs and knowledge discovery in the AI-supported environments. Examples will include terminology generation to improve KOSs and AI-assisted term selection in the process of searching. Equally, we will learn about the potential of high-quality KOSs for improving resource discovery through GenAI in general and LLMs in particular. Some important points will be made about identification and disambiguation across languages, scripts and historical periods and associated metadata. We will also hear about challenges and ethical considerations associated with the AI applications.

Knowledge organization is at the core of systems for helping users to define their information needs and for retrieving and presenting the information to fill this need. Therefore, this conference should be of interest to information professionals and researchers in the broader field of information science and to those tasked with understanding and improving how findability can and should work.
