Knowledge Organization in the Age of AI: Innovation, Integration and Impact

The 8th ISKO UK biennial conference “Knowledge Organization in the Age of AI: Innovation, Integration and Impact” took place on 7 October 2025.

Through a selection of invited talks the conference promoted discussion and understanding of knowledge organization systems (KOSs), related applications, and advances in generative AI.

The speakers illustrated some innovative approaches to improving the quality of KOSs and knowledge discovery in the AI-supported environments. Examples included terminology generation to improve KOSs and AI-assisted term selection in the process of searching. Equally, we learned about the potential of high-quality KOSs for improving resource discovery through GenAI in general and LLMs in particular. We also heard about challenges and ethical considerations associated with the AI applications.

The conference was attended by over 80 information professionals and researchers from 25 countries.
