The role of the ethical Information Professional in combating ‘fake news’

The increased awareness of ‘fake news’ and misinformation has prompted an important discussion about trust in public life. Trust and authenticity are increasingly becoming key aspects of delivering online services and ensuring that citizens can effectively navigate our connected society. Research shows that librarians and information professionals are consistently among the most trusted professions. In this talk, CILIP CEO Nick Poole will draw on the lessons learned from the CILIP Ethics Review to look at how we can strengthen and build on this position of trust to define new roles for information professionals in combating ‘fake news’.
