Beyond search: other uses for taxonomies

The utility of taxonomy-based indexing to improve search is widely known and well documented; tagging content for retrieval and improving content discoverability is still the primary use case — and, often, the impetus — for a semantics program.
Increasingly, though, information professionals are inventing new ways to utilize their taxonomies and tagged documents. This talk will discuss how organizations are using vocabularies as well as thoughts about future ways to leverage semantic investments.
These include innovative ways to browse content in web-based interfaces, using semantics to drive analytics for business intelligence, and various ways publishers are using taxonomies for checks at the point of manuscript submission.
